Creative Connector member Michele Dickson has long embraced art as a way of being in the world. As an artist and writer with over 50 years of experience, she works in a variety of mediums and has been recently published in online journals and magazines.
Michele has also experienced firsthand what it means to be a disabled artist navigating chronic illness.
For nearly six years, she has been bed-bound. Rather than seeing this as a barrier to her creativity, she has found that disability and illness offer alternative ways of engaging with the world, heightening creative capacities, and fostering collaboration within community-oriented spaces.
Her art practice has remained a crucial source of resilience, hope, and joy throughout these years.
Recognizing the need for a dedicated space for disabled artists in similar situations, Michele created the Bed Bound Artist Society.
This group is designed to be a supportive and empowering community where disabled and chronically ill artists can share their creative journeys, exchange ideas, and uplift one another.
Through art-making and community dialogue, the Bed Bound Artist Society aims to cultivate resilience and personal growth for its members.
If you’re a disabled or chronically ill artist looking for a space to connect, share, and create, this group is for you.
