happy birthday to the Deaf Club

The Deaf Club opened its doors to the punk rock community in the 70s.

I recently learned about The Deaf Club through Kevin Gotkins Crip News. Last week the club was celebrating its 49th anniversary, a Deaf cultural space that originated in the 1930s and operated briefly in the 70s as a punk rock venue featuring bands like the Dead Kennedys, D.O.A., The Subhumans, Tuxedomoon, X, Flipper, and The Germs

I recommend reading Kevin's Crip Club Vibes: Technologies for New Nightlife in which he talks about this convergence of Deaf culture and punk art that occurred at the Deaf Club and the possibilities for thinking anew about how to share and create space with different bodies and minds.
